Co-op Update — Week of 10/29/18

Here’s the latest…
1) Here is the November Portfolio Checklist.  We’ll be introducing this on Tuesday, with the expectation that students have migrated into the top categories of the rubric before Thanksgiving break.
2) We are headed out for a DCPA performance of “Breakin’ Convention” on Friday, November 2nd.  It is a CHOICE tradition for students to dress nicely for this event.  (They can also dress in breakdancing clothes if they prefer.)
3) Students who want to earn two community service hours can “trick or treat” for UNICEF on Halloween.  We’ll have manilla envelopes for students to collect donations.  Students can also simply bring their candy to school on Thursday, November 1st in a stapled brown bag with their name on it and a local dentist will buy the candy, with funds being donated to UNICEF.
4) We’ve overhauled our portfolios this year and we are introducing a new framework for reflections.  Instead of sections such as “math,” “language arts,” etc., we are asking students to reflect on their learning through three facets of understanding:  Deep Knowledge, Problem Solving, and Communication.  This will be unrolled in classes over the next months. Happy (almost) Halloween!  -JF
