LA Update — Week of 10/15

Lots happening in the next few weeks.  Here are upcoming due dates with links containing further details:
Friday 10/19:  Reading Rubric complete.
Monday 10/22:  Students should have the first 1000 words (give or take) of their story complete. This is a guideline not a ’turned-in” assignment.
Tuesday 10/23:  Grammar Play Performance (though this date may float)
Thursday 10/25:  Story Checkpoint #1 due.
In class this week, we’ll learn about dynamic metaphors, comma splices, and self-revision.  We’ll be looking at our process as writers through the use of a Chromebook extension called draftback and one of my favorite writing videos ever.
Thank you for all your continued support!  -JF

CTM Update — Week of 10/15

Hi Legal Eagles,

I’m still seeking a few additional chaperones for our fieldwork ADI on November 16th.  (I have three — I need six).  If you are able to join us (and are willing to drive students on a scavenger hunt in Denver), let me know by Wednesday.  Thank you so much.
If you are looking for dinner table conversation fodder, here are four quick questions to ask your student about Courtroom Time Machine:
1) What story are you telling with your slave trade infographic?
2) What topic did you choose for you LTP editorial?
3) What was Plessy vs. Ferguson?  Can you describe the case for me?
4) What artifacts are you choosing for the creation of your LTP?
In class this week, we’ll be working on our LTPs, introducing Brown vs. Board of Education, and preparing lesson plans of our own.
Upcoming due dates:
Monday by the end of class:  Slave Trade Infographic
Wednesday by 9pm:  LTP Editorial via google classroom
Friday:  Script due for LTP time capsule video journal.  (This date may float)
Have a fantastic week!  -JF
