This upcoming week is genetics week! We’ll be exploring heredity as we learn about Mendel, Punnett squares, and genetic diseases. We’ll even create and breed our own zombies to learn how traits are inherited! In addition, my wife who happens to be a genetic counselor, will be joining us on Wednesday to help us understand both what genetic counselors do and how to draw a genetic pedigree for our new zombie families.
The following week will be focused on classification and learning more about Darwin and his theory of Natural Selection. We’ll do a peppered moth activity and commence initial research of our LTPs. Students chose their LTP topics last week.
Upcoming due dates:
- Monday: Cell comics due
- Thursday: Zombie Pedigree Complete. Also, last chance to turn in any missing work (or revisions) from the first month of class. This includes the bacteria lab, the cell comic, Quest #1, Quest #2, Virus infographic, etc. Please check IC for assignment status.
- Tuesday, February 18th: Flash Genetic Disease Presentations. (This date may float)
- Friday, February 21st: Initial research collected for LTP. Classification Research Document Complete.
